🌲 WOODYN

🌱 What is Woodyn?

Woodyn is a multiplayer woodland survival game. You control a tree β€” eat nutrients scattered across the forest floor to gain rings and mass, then absorb smaller trees to become the dominant force in the forest. The map is shared with other trees (players or bots), and only the largest survive.

Think of it as a living forest ecosystem: you expand, decay, split, and compete β€” shaped by terrain, powerups, and the decisions of every other tree on the map.

πŸ–±οΈ Controls

MToggle the minimap on/off
☰Open the in-game menu (top left)
πŸ“± TouchDrag to steer β€” πŸͺ“ button (bottom-left) or double-tap to split
πŸ’‘ On mobile, both the πŸͺ“ button and double-tap work for splitting. You can toggle either off in the ☰ menu if they interfere with your play style.
🌳 Rings & Decay

Your tree is measured in rings β€” visible as concentric circles. More rings means a larger radius, more mass, and more power. Your current mass (rings Γ— 100) is shown in the top-left corner.

🟒
Eating Nutrients
Coloured dots scattered across the map. Larger dots are worth more. Golden dots (during the Golden Feast) are worth significantly more. Drive through them to absorb them.
⬇️
Decay
All trees slowly lose rings over time, but decay accelerates dramatically above 20 rings. Giant trees hemorrhage mass β€” stay aggressive or shrink fast.
πŸ†
Maximum Size
Each cell has a maximum ring size. A fully split tree (up to 8 cells at max) can reach enormous mass β€” but decay and combat make this extremely hard to maintain.
βš”οΈ Combat

Trees can eat each other. To absorb another tree, your cell must be at least 10% larger than theirs and physically overlap. The smaller tree is absorbed and adds mass to your tree.

πŸ’‘ A tree with 10 rings can eat any tree up to about 9 rings. Size matters β€” close matches just bounce.
πŸ›‘οΈ
Spawn Protection
Newly spawned trees are invulnerable for up to 5 seconds. Protection ends early once you reach 3 rings β€” giving you time to find your footing without being permanent shields.
πŸ”€
Bouncing
When two similarly sized trees meet, they bounce off each other rather than either being absorbed.
🌰
Acorn Drop
When a tree is destroyed, it drops high-value acorn nutrients at the kill site β€” triggering a feeding frenzy for nearby trees.
βœ‚οΈ Splitting

Press Space to split your tree in two, launching half of your mass toward your cursor at high speed. This is your primary offensive tool β€” a well-timed split lets you close the gap on prey that's just out of reach.

⏱️
Merge Cooldown
After splitting, your cells won't remerge for 12 seconds (bots remerge in 8 seconds). During this time you're vulnerable β€” a larger tree can eat your smaller half. Plan your splits carefully.
8️⃣
Maximum Splits
You can split up to 8 cells total. Each must be large enough (3.5+ rings) to split further.
πŸšͺ
Portals While Split
Split trees cannot use hollow log portals β€” only whole trees may enter. Merge first, then warp.
πŸ—ΊοΈ Terrain
Meadows
Dark green patches. No gameplay effect β€” purely visual. Nutrients can spawn inside them.
Ponds
Blue areas that slow your movement by 50%. Good for escaping pursuers β€” they slow down too.
Rocks
Solid obstacles, concentrated near the map edges with fewer in the centre. Hitting one deals damage, knocks off bark fragments, and can split the cell that made contact. Trees with 6 or more cells won't split further from rocks. Small trees can use edge rocks as shelter.
Blight
Purple toxic patches that drain your rings β€” slowly at first, then faster the longer you stay. A quick dash through costs about 10% of your mass, but lingering for 5+ seconds is devastating. A purple vignette and ☠ BLIGHT warning appears when you're inside one. The drain resets when you leave, so darting in and out is safer than camping.
Hollow Logs
Colour-coded portal pairs. Enter one end to teleport to the other β€” but only if your cell is 8 rings or smaller, and only when not split.
Walls
Hard map boundaries. Trees are clamped to the map edge. Corner zones have no nutrients β€” trees can't reach them.
⚑ Powerups

Powerups appear as glowing symbols on the map. Drive through one to collect it. Each has a limited duration and respawns after a cooldown once collected.

⚑
Speed Boost
Cyan glow β€” scattered across the map
Makes you 70% faster for 8 seconds. Excellent for chasing prey or escaping threats. If you kill a boosted tree, you inherit their remaining boost time.
🌡
Thornburst
Purple star β€” rare defensive pickup
One-use defensive weapon. When a larger tree touches you, they're immediately forced to split β€” giving you a chance to escape or counterattack. Thornburst always fires before Mirrorwood is checked.
☯
Mirrorwood
Yin-yang β€” rare offensive pickup
Reverses the eat rules for 8 seconds β€” you (the smaller tree) can now eat larger trees, while your own larger cells become vulnerable. Extremely powerful near giants. If both trees have Mirrorwood, the smaller one wins.
🌟 Special Events
✨
Golden Feast
Periodic event β€” watch for the countdown
A burst of sparkling golden nutrients floods the map. Most are worth 5Γ— a regular nutrient, but roughly 1 in 5 are mega-golden β€” larger, brighter, and worth 8Γ— normal value. Position yourself centrally to grab the megas. Uncollected golden nutrients disappear when the Golden Feast ends.
🎯
The Hunt
Largest tree is marked
The biggest tree on the map is marked with a 🎯. Everyone can see them on the minimap. Kill the hunt target to earn a speed boost and a massive acorn drop at the kill site.
πŸ”₯
Kill Streaks
Shown in leaderboard & above tree
Consecutive kills build a streak shown above your tree with πŸ”₯. A 5+ streak shows in red. Your best streak each week is tracked on the Top Hunters leaderboard. Streak resets on death.
πŸ’₯
Close Call
Flash warning
When you nearly get eaten by a tree only slightly larger, a "CLOSE CALL!" flash appears on your screen.
🎯
Revenge
30 seconds after death
The tree that killed you is highlighted as a pulsing red dot on your minimap for 30 seconds after you respawn. Hunt them down.
πŸ”¬ Powerup Interactions
Scenario Result
Both trees have Mirrorwood The smaller tree wins β€” both mirrors flip the advantage toward the smaller holder.
Thornburst vs Mirrorwood Thornburst wins unconditionally β€” it's checked first. The Mirrorwood holder gets split regardless.
Kill a boosted tree You inherit their remaining speed boost if it outlasts yours.
Enter a warp while split Not allowed β€” you must be a single cell to use a hollow log portal.
Thornburst while larger Thornburst only fires when you're the smaller tree. Being larger deactivates it.

πŸ’‘ Strategy Tips
🎯
The Split-Chase
Split toward prey that's just out of reach. Your launched half travels fast β€” but you're now half the size and vulnerable for 12 seconds until you remerge (bots remerge in 8 seconds).
πŸ’§
Use Ponds as Shields
Both you and your pursuer slow down in ponds equally. If you enter a pond while being chased, the size advantage of the larger tree is partially neutralised β€” they can't accelerate away from you either.
🌡
Thornburst as a Trap
Thornburst fires when a larger tree touches you. Deliberately let a giant approach, then let Thornburst split them β€” their smaller half may now be catchable.
☯
Mirrorwood as a Gambit
Grab Mirrorwood then approach the largest tree on the map. For 8 seconds you can eat them β€” they can't eat you. Time it with a speed boost for maximum impact.
πŸšͺ
Portal Escapes
If you're small enough (≀8 rings) and not split, hollow log portals can get you instantly across the map. Use them to escape or to ambush from unexpected angles.
✨
Golden Feast Rush
When the golden countdown appears, position yourself centrally. Look for the larger, brighter mega-golden nutrients β€” they're worth 8Γ— normal value. The tree that reaches the megas first gains an enormous advantage.
πŸ† Weekly Leaderboards

Two leaderboards track your best performances each week. Top Foresters ranks players by their peak mass β€” how large you managed to get in a single life. Top Hunters ranks players by their best kill streak β€” how many consecutive kills you landed before dying. Both boards are shown on the start screen and after death. They reset every Sunday at midnight. Since there are no accounts, names aren't verified β€” it's the honour system, like an arcade high score table.

πŸ’€ Idle & AFK

If you stop moving or interacting for too long, you'll be returned to the start screen automatically. After being harvested, you can spectate your killer for a short time β€” you'll be prompted to keep watching or return to the menu. The forest only comes alive when players are present β€” when everyone leaves, the bots rest too. Jump back in any time to wake the forest.
